YAY!! No joint for me.... for now anyways!

Yay!!!  I am very HAPPY, I had to blow today (PFT'S) and I was a lil nervous even though I feel so much better then I did last week. Last week I was a lil under the weather and had some Hemoptysis(coughing up blood) My doc thinks it was just going from a very humid climate to a very dry climate. So I upped my Usana and stopped my meds for a bit and then I started them back up and included TOBI which is an inhaled antibiotic and things turned around!

I have an appt on Aug 18th however with the current events I just wanted to make sure I was doing ok. So I blew 1 point lower then May so I didn't have to be locked up. I will blow again on the 18th and we will go from there. In the mean time I will continue TOBI and then I am due to start back on Aztreonam around the 8th. Aztreonam is that study drug that I started in June. That one that takes only 3 minutes. It is a nice change from The 45 min that TOBI takes.

Newborn Screening for CF

Five States Step Up Efforts to Screen Newborns for Cystic Fibrosis

Four states--Arkansas, Kansas, Maine, and West Virginia--have joined 40 others and the District of Columbia in requiring that all newborns be screened for cystic fibrosis (CF) at birth.

In addition, Utah has cleared the way to begin regular CF screening as well. Routine screening is expected to begin January 1, 2009.

“Newborn screening for cystic fibrosis is critically important because it allows doctors to diagnose the disease before a child becomes ill,” said Robert J. Beall, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “Early diagnosis leads to a better chance for a healthier and longer life. Each of these states has taken an important step in the fight against cystic fibrosis.”

PA: Smog could get worse with global warming

By DINA CAPPIELLO, Associated Press WriterThu Jul 10, 8:30 PM ET

Global warming could worsen smog and stretch what typically is a summer pollution problem into the spring and fall, government scientists predicted Thursday.

Smog is most likely to get worse in the Northeast, lower Midwest, and mid-Atlantic regions of the country, where numerous counties and cities are already struggling to clean up the air, according to a draft analysis by the Environmental Protection Agency.

But in Texas and Southern California, already among the smoggiest areas in the country, the science is unclear, even conflicting. Smog there could get slightly better or become more severe, the analysis said.

Nonetheless, researchers said state officials should be factoring in the impact of global warming as they make plans to try to reduce smog, calling it a "climate penalty."

"These findings also indicate, that, where climate-change-induced increases in (smog) do occur, damaging effects on ecosystems, agriculture, and health will be especially pronounced, due to increases in the frequency of extreme pollution events," the analysis concluded. However, the prediction came with a caveat: the researchers did not take into account efforts to reduce smog that are already under way because of stricter environmental regulations.

EPA stressed that the document did not represent the agency's policies or position on global warming. On Friday, the agency is scheduled to officially respond to a Supreme Court ruling that said greenhouse gases could be regulated under the Clean Air Act if they pose a risk to human health or welfare.

The Bush administration has resisted linking global warming to public health problems.

The ill-effects of smog, however, have been long been recognized. Smog is formed when nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds released from cars, industry and plants mix in sunlight. It can irritate the respiratory system, reduce lung capacity and aggravate asthma. Global warming would make smog worse because it would cause plants to release more smog-forming organic compounds and spark more lightning storms, which create nitrogen oxides naturally.

Barry Wallerstein, executive director of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, which regulates air pollution in Orange County, Calif., and parts of Los Angeles, said the link between global warming and smog should compel EPA to control greenhouse gas emissions.

Still on house arrest...GRRRR!

Salt Lake/Davis County 3 - Day Forecast

    Wednesday    Thursday    Friday
Day One
Day 2
Day 3

Breathing on her own with brand new lungs!

She is AMAZING!!!!!!! At 10:05 PT this evening, Sara took her first free breath with her new lungs! The Respiratory Therapist pulled out the breathing tube, she gasped and coughed and spit -- and she was on her own!

Her throat is still very sore, and she doesn't have much voice, but she's able to talk a little bit. No fluids allowed, so she's only able to have her mouth swabbed out with some sterile water to try to refresh her. And she's still in quite a bit of pain from her sutures and chest tubes (and surgery!), but is handling it all amazingly well (as any who know her would expect)!

Quick Update on My Cyster Sara

She is in ICU and doing well!!! The surgery was a success!!!

She is a fighter please still keep her in your prayers as she goes through the recovery process!! Also please remember to pray for the donor family as they go through the grieving process.

Wow the air is beyond horrible!!

So lately my morning routine involves me checking the air quality on airnow.gov however this morning when I walked outside I couldn't even see the mountains that to me is a good indicator that the air we are all breathing is SHITTY!!!!!

So needless to say I am back on house arrest! I got out for a few hours today for some dinner well and to stay sane. I just got back from San Fran and something tells me I should of stayed there. Funny with all the fires they are having their ozone and particle pollution levels were lower then Salt Lakes. I am headed to Newport Beach soon so I can breathe in some fresh ocean air!

Prayer Request for my Cyster Sara

My CF Cyster Sara is currently in surgery - She received the call last night around 8:45 pm! Her and her amazing Hubby arrived at UCLA about 2:40 am and they finally separated the two of them around 5:30 am. Mike got the call from the scrub nurse that the lungs had arrived, they looked good, and they were proceeding to start the actual surgery - it was 7 am.

Mike was updated that the surgery is going very well - she went under smoothly, everything is running as expected, and they are working on getting the lungs in.The surgery will probably go til 2 pm.

Please pray that the surgery goes well and that My Cyster will have a speedy recovery! She has been waiting over 2 years and 30 days for these new lungs I am so happy that she finally got her miracle. Please also pray for the donor family as they are dealing with their loss. I am so thankful that they made the decision to donate and to give the gift of life.

I'm it!!!

Ok so I have putting this off for quite some time now.... I have been tagged by some great friends and I need to fulfill my duty and try and come up with 5 facts about my self that are pretty random that you may not know..... This is harder then you think!

#1 So you all know I am a mom to 2 adorable pugs Oscar & Lilly and they are so spoiled! But my latest idea that I think I will complete by the end of this summer is to make my guest bedroom into a  doggy room I want to put 2 toddler size beds in there and have their pics on the walls and then put one of my favorite quotes on the wall "The pug is proof that God has a sense of humor" The walls in that room are a light mintish green so I am trying to come up with something that will be unisex for them both. Without having to repaint.

#2 I think my worst fear is bees.... Knock on wood I have never been stung but I seem to attract them. Once I found one sitting on my shoulder and it was with me for about 6 min and stayed on there even when I went back indoors. Of course I didn't know it was there or I would of had a minor heart attack. Someone was so nice to point the lil guy out to me that is when I went into panic mode.

#3 I have a list of a 100 things I want to complete before I die.... I recommend everyone make one it is so great to actually get to cross the items off, better then any to do list. They actually just made a movie about this called the bucket list, which I recommend. Anyways this might be a shock to many but the number one thing on that list is to not only meet Madonna herself but to also get to know her. I did have a dream last week that we were best friends so who knows it could happen.

#4 Another goal I had after completing high school was to be famous well I went to Utah State and trust me I wasn't going to get discovered in Logan Utah. So I am not sure how it came about but my dad new this producer in LA that arranged for me to do a screen test with Sage Stallone (Sylvester's son) we filmed it at Sylvesters house and the scene called for a kiss but I chickened out and we fudged it a bit :) Needless to say my career never took off.

#5 hmmm 1 more???? So I love Disneyland. I try to go every 3 years..... My favorite ride is Splash Mountain!! I am so excited for the next time I go I really want to stay in the castle. They just recently put a room on the top of the castle where tinkerbell lives. Can you imagine when the park closes you are still going to be inside. SO cool can't wait for that!!

Phew... Ok Shar, Sara, and Cara I hope I met your expectations :) !!! That was a struggle. I tag Tanya, Erin, Natty and my GSB
