Some Healthy tips I swear by...

Can you Say Slacker!!!

I will not neglect my blog

I will not neglect my blog

I need to write that 1000 times!!!

Its been a crazy year!!!

I have lots of updates but first things first its that dreaded time of year again....
FLU & COLD SEASON!!!! Cough, Cough, Sneeze!! YUCK!!!!

I thought I wold re post me healthy tips I swear by....

Some Things that I do to help keep me healthy that I swear by...

1. Frequent hand-washing, when you can't wash Purell!!

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face. If I have a itch I will use the inside of my shirt to itch it or a tissue.

3. Gargle with warm salt water.... I always gargle at the end of every night. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with warm salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. A daily sinus rinse... Again I always do mine before I start my nightly treatments. I use a packet per nostril! Similar to 3 above, salt water is very effective In bringing down viral population.

5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vit C and D or take a vit C and D supplement. I take many vitamins I think its very important to keep up on all your vitamin levels so you can stay healthy.

6. Drink as much warm liquids as you can. This is a pretty easy step I love my Starbucks!!! Some yummy examples and some of my favs are coffee, hot choc, tea, or a hot chai. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive.

Another thing if you're sick refrain from hugging or shaking peoples hands the worst is when you hug someone and then they are hacking up a lung a second later and telling you how sick they are... Um thanks for the hug!!

ELBOWS people its ALL about the BOWS!!!!!

Stay Healthy out there!!! If your sick be selfish, please don't share your boogs!

Flu and Cold Season...

Bring it on....

I'm as ready as I can get!

Elbows!!!! Its elbow time not to be confused with Hammer time ;) So when you go to hug or shake someone's hands try giving them Bows!!! Especially if you are feeling under the weather!

I stocked up on Purell... I have it in my handbag, coat pocket, car, and throughout my house.

Got my Flu shot! (remember your flu shot takes 2 weeks to start working so think about getting it soon)

White fluffy crap...

Its not clouds its our air... Oh yummy! I went up to the U today to pick up my aztreonam my Ever Go is getting some good use, had to wear it just in the 20 min I was in the car.

You can see the top of the mountains but then underneath all that pollution there is the lovely city I call home...

This particular pic is taken above tall downtown buildings funny you can't even see any buildings they would be on the right hand side.

Tomorrow there is a storm pray its strong enough to blow this crap out!

Last night on the news they showed the top 5 cities with the worst air and Utah had 4 out of 5 the 5th one was Phoenix.

Still on house arrest and have a lovely O2 headache from my 20 min jaunt.

Babies are in heaven they love when I am on house arrest.

I am running out of projects... ok well not really I could always organize, clean. Don't tell anyone but I resorted to watching the bachelor yesterday for the second time ever. I couldn't stop watching it was like a train wreck are those girls really serious? I can't believe that show has been on has long as it has. I know a lot of people LOVE it and that is great, just don't ask me to come over and have a bachelor party ;)

I hope everyone has a fabulous day! Enjoy your fresh air :)

I need to buy stock in Lysol, Purell, Salt (still gargling when I get home), and of course the Netti pot, Apple Cider Vinegar oh really the list is long!

I ordered some NAC yesterday it's a supplement that I take but I ordered it in a fizzy form. drop, drop, fizz, fizz!! I am excited to try it out I will keep you guys posted. NAC is also a mucolytic so the fizzy form should be awesome!

Swine Line Round 2

Well round 2 went much better thanks to my Dad! My Dad got in line for me at 7:30 am I got there at 9:30 with Starbucks in hand for us both, it was 34 degrees and lil snow flurries... BURRR

They started giving the shot out at 10 and I FINALLY got mine at Noon. They line was over a mile long and so ridiculous!! This clinic however were only giving it out to high risk so that was good! Some people were wheeling and dealing let me tell ya. Ps people allergies does not make you high risk, get the flu mist!

Me In the swine line!
When we were getting close!
Happy Halloween to everyone! I am headed to the U game tonight. Go UTES!! Ill be sportin a mask there too! I still have to be careful for 14 days for the shot to be in full effect! But have some sense of relief.

Taste of Salt Lake is one week away... so crazy! I can't wait!

Eye Opener

"Sometimes we're so busy worrying about what will kill us, that we forget how to truly live"

I saw this on Face Book and had to re post it on my status and here. I needed to see this!! I have been a hermit lately due to the whole swine thing. No thanks to the media and the fact that it's everywhere! So I cut myself off from all forms of media. I still have not been able to get the vaccine. I am hoping that tomorrow I will be able to get it. Fingers crossed! So only positive healthy thoughts, washing my poor 90 year old hands, purelling like crazy, sporting masks in overly crowded areas and gargling with salt water, sinus rinses and lots of hot drinks and with all those precautions the swine can kiss my A** ;)

I have a lil sinus thing going on and am not liking it one bit how does a hermit get sinus troubles?? I started TOBi on Mon so maybe that brought it out who knows. I can guarantee you tho I am fighting it with full force it doesn't stand a chance! By the way I love gargling with hot apple cider vinegar. I swear it helps break stuff up in the sinuses maybe TMI but I got a couple petrified plugs out when I did this the other day :) Gotta love getting rid of plugs!

I have been painting a ton!! I have been branching out and experimenting a lil having a ton of fun with it. I'll post some of them on here. Today I'll leave you with...

JUST LET ME BREATHE

simple and smart ways

to avoid getting sick this cold and flu season.

My Dad sent me this e mail I thought it was interesting and had some good points...

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face

3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt).
H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate And show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way,
gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and Powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt Water. Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga Asanas to clean nasal cavities), but blowing the nose hard once a day and Swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective In bringing down viral population.

5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C. If you have
To supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost Absorption.

6. Drink as much of warm liquids as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same Effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses From the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any Harm.

What the CFF recommends

CF Foundation Provides Guidance on Seasonal and H1N1 Influenza

September 22, 2009

The CF Foundation is closely monitoring the seasonal and H1N1 (swine) flu situation.

The Foundation recommends that all people with cystic fibrosis and individuals living with them follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on both seasonal and H1N1 flu prevention and vaccination.

Based on the CDC’s recommendations, the Foundation urges everyone with CF and those who live in the same household to:

  1. Get the seasonal flu vaccine as soon as possible.
  2. Get the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available in October.
  3. Minimize the spread of germs by:
    • Washing your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand gel.
    • Using a tissue when coughing or sneezing, then washing your hands.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth since germs are spread that way.
    • Staying away from others if you are ill.
  4. Watch for symptoms of the flu and if they appear, call your doctor. Symptoms include:
    • Body aches and headache
    • Fatigue
    • Fever and chills
    • Increased cough
    • Sore throat

Seasonal and H1N1 Flu Vaccines

The seasonal flu vaccine is an important step in protecting against seasonal flu. Vaccination is especially important for people at high risk of serious flu complications, such a people with CF.

The seasonal flu vaccine will not protect you against the H1N1 flu.

A new vaccine against H1N1 flu is being developed. The CDC states that the vaccine will be available in October.

People at greatest risk for H1N1 flu – such as those with CF – should receive the H1N1 vaccine as soon as it is available.

Vaccinations for people with CF are available at CF care centers. Household members of people with CF also should receive the seasonal and the H1N1 flu vaccinations. You can find the closest place to receive the flu vaccine from the American Lung Association’s Flu Clinic Locator Web site.

The best way to protect against seasonal and H1N1 flu is by practicing good infection control. For more information on infection control or vaccinations, talk to your CF doctor.

10 ways to be H1N1 SAvvy

This summer, the virus has been surprisingly tenacious in the U.S., refusing to fade away as flu viruses usually do. And health officials predict a surge of cases this fall, perhaps very soon as schools reopen.

A White House report from an expert panel suggests that from 30 percent to half the population could catch swine flu during the course of this pandemic and that from 30,000 to 90,000 could die.

So how worried should you be and how do you prepare? The Associated Press has tried to boil down the mass of information into 10 things you should know to be flu-savvy.

1. No cause for panic.

So far, swine flu isn't much more threatening than regular seasonal flu.

During the few months of this new flu's existence, hospitalizations and deaths from it seem to be lower than the average seen for seasonal flu, and the virus hasn't dramatically mutated. That's what health officials have observed in the Southern Hemisphere where flu seasonis now winding down.

Still, more people are susceptible to swine flu and U.S. health officials are worried because it hung in so firmly here during the summer — a time of year the flu usually goes away.

2. Virus tougher on some.

Swine flu is more of a threat to certain groups — children under 2, pregnant women, people with health problems like asthma, diabetes and heart disease. Teens and young adults are also more vulnerable to swine flu.

Ordinary, seasonal flu hits older people the hardest, but not swine flu. Scientists think older people may have some immunity from exposure years earlier to viruses similar to swine flu.

3. Wash your hands often and long.

Like seasonal flu, swine flu spreads through the coughs and sneezes of people who are sick. Emphasize to children that they should wash with soap and water long enough to finish singing the alphabet song, "Now I know my ABC's..." Also use alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

4. Get the kids vaccinated.

These groups should be first in line for swine flu shots, especially if vaccine supplies are limited — people 6 months to 24 years old, pregnant women, health care workers.

Also a priority: Parents and caregivers of infants, people with those high-risk medical conditions previously noted.

5. Get your shots early.

Millions of swine flu shots should be available by October. If you are in one of the priority groups, try to get your shot as early as possible.

Check with your doctor or local or state health department about where to do this. Many children should be able to get vaccinated at school. Permission forms will be sent home in advance.

6. Immunity takes awhile.

Even those first in line for shots won't have immunity until around Thanksgiving.

That's because it's likely to take two shots, given three weeks apart, to provide protection. And it takes a week or two after the last shot for the vaccine to take full effect.

The regular seasonal flu shot should be widely available in September. People over 50 are urged to be among the first to get that shot.

7. Vaccines are being tested.

Health officials presume the swine flu vaccine is safe and effective, but they're testing it to make sure.

The federal government has begun studies in eight cities across the country to assess its effectiveness and figure out the best dose. Vaccine makers are doing their own tests as well.

8. Help! Surrounded by swine flu.

If an outbreak of swine flu hits your area before you're vaccinated, be extra cautious.

Stay away from public gathering places like malls, sports events and churches. Try to keep your distance from people in general. Keep washing those hands and keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth.

9. What if you get sick?

If you have other health problems or are pregnant and develop flu-like symptoms, call your doctor right away. You may be prescribed Tamiflu or Relenza. These drugs can reduce the severity of swine flu if taken right after symptoms start.

If you develop breathing problems (rapid breathing for kids), pain in your chest, constant vomiting or a fever that keeps rising, go to an emergency room.

Most people, though, should just stay home and rest. Cough into your elbow or shoulder. Stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever breaks. Fluids and pain relievers like Tylenol can help with achiness and fever. Always check with a doctor before giving children any medicines. Adult cold and flu remedies are not for them.

10. No swine flu from barbecue.

You can't catch swine flu from pork — or poultry either (even though it recently turned up in turkeys in Chile). Swine flu is not spread by handling meat, whether it's raw or cooked.
